Downer Enters into Framework Agreement with Rio Tinto Iron Ore

Date: 15/03/2012

Downer EDI Limited (Downer) today announced it had entered into a framework agreement (“the Agreement”) with Rio Tinto Iron Ore (“RTIO”).

The Agreement provides Downer with preferred contractor status for the next five years on nominated projects for electrical and instrumentation work within Rio Tinto’s 333 Capacity Expansion Programme of its Pilbara operations, Western Australia.

The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said Downer was pleased to be building on its relationship with Rio Tinto and extending its service offering to include electrical and instrumentation work.

“Downer Mining is currently providing fleet maintenance at Rio Tinto’s Argyle Diamond Mine, open-cut mining services as well as an indigenous recruitment and development scheme at Paraburdoo Mine, and tyre management through Otraco International at multiple sites across Western Australia,” Mr Fenn said.

“Downer Rail has previously delivered locomotives for Rio Tinto Aluminium’s Weipa operations and we now welcome the opportunity to supply Rio Tinto Iron Ore with the electrical and instrumentation works necessary to deliver critical projects as part of the expansion of its iron ore operations in the Pilbara.”

The scope of work has not yet been finalised, however the first package of works is expected to commence in the 2012 financial year.
