The National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA) has recognised Downer for Excellence in Innovative Sustainable Work Practices.
In October 2010, the National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA) recognised Downer for Excellence in Innovative Sustainable Work Practices.
We received the award for our exciting asphalt product developments which have seen significant reductions in both energy usage and carbon emissions.
As one of the largest producers and users of asphalt in Australia, we own and operate more than 30 asphalt plants which produce and supply asphalt for our road construction and maintenance projects, producing nearly two million tonnes of asphalt each year.
Our focus on Zero Harm has resulted in our continual development of Warm Asphalt Mix (WAM) and Recycled Asphalt Product (RAP). Together, the use of WAM and RAP results in approximately a 30 per cent reduction in energy use and up to an estimated 30 per cent reduction in carbon emissions. These reductions provide environmental benefits while delivering a sustainable, alternative road resurfacing product.
This national award confirms our Zero Harm practices are world-class and that our clients, the community and the industry are committed to our vision - that one day, every road will be made of sustainable product.
